Our research program has established itself as a leader in regenerative medicine, demonstrating exceptional productivity and impact across multiple dimensions of scientific excellence.


Scientific publications and impact

With 937 peer-reviewed publications (2016-2021), our team has maintained sustained scientific productivity and visibility. Notably, 361 publications appear in high-impact journals (IF >5), including 83 articles in elite journals (IF >10) and 43 publications in top-tier venues (IF >20). Our research has reached the highest levels of scientific influence, with publications in journals with high impact factors such as clinical research published in a journal with an IF >50.

 


Innovation and technology transfer

Our commitment to translating research into practical applications is evidenced by our robust intellectual property portfolio and successful technology transfer initiatives. We have filed 8 patents (2019-2020), with 4 successfully licensed, demonstrating the commercial viability and real-world impact of our innovations. This technology transfer success culminated in the creation of Lamina Therapeutics, a deeptech startup spin-off valued at 11 million euros (September 2020) and recipient of the BPI France Deeptech Award. The company exemplifies our bench-to-bedside approach, having successfully transferred technology for GMP production of the investigational product Lamina.One, including IMPD Quality documentation. Our translational pipeline extends from preclinical set up, encompassing IMPD Safety and Efficacy studies and Investigational Brochure preparation, through to clinical trial authorization via the EMA-ANSM through CTIS application and clinical protocol set up. This pathway from patented innovation through regulatory approval demonstrates our capacity to bridge academic discovery, industrial partnership and clinical implementation, transforming fundamental research into accessible therapeutic solutions.


Research funding and competitive grants

We have secured €7.6 million in competitive grants (2016-2024), demonstrating sustained confidence in our research excellence and translational potential. This includes 12 ANR grants since 2011, with 7 awarded since 2018 and 4 SATT Conectus grants supporting technology transfer. Major European funding includes the EIC EU Project. Our diverse funding portfolio extends to health-focused agencies including FRM, INCA and Ligue contre le Cancer, reflecting the breadth and clinical relevance of our research programs. Regional partnerships include Région Grand Est, Eurométropole and Région Grand Est MTI-DMI program focused on ATMP-Implantable Medical Device development.


Strategic industrial partnerships

Our industrial partnerships span global pharmaceutical and medical device leaders, securing €2 million in industrial grants from companies including Astra-Zeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, Novo-Nordisk, Schwabe GmbH (Germany), Pivotal Therapeutics (Canada), VSL Pharmaceutics (Italy), Han-Wha (South Korea), Unilever (UK), Straumann (Switzerland), Thommen (Switzerland), Transgene (France), Lamina Therapeutics (France) and Hemarina (France), ensuring our innovations address real-world clinical and commercial needs.


Clinical research excellence

Our clinical research portfolio includes 11 major clinical grants: 4 PHRC, 5 PRI, 1 PRC and 1 APJC, ensuring direct patient impact and clinical translation of our findings. We serve as founders of FHU OMNICAR, FHU TARGET and FHU DATA SURGE, strengthening the bridge between laboratory research and clinical application.


International and national scientific leadership and collaborative networks

Our global research network spans multiple continents through strategic international programs. We participate in the GDRI-CNRS platforms and the IRN CeSMeR program with China (2016-2020 and 2021-2026), PHC partnerships with Korea, Spain, Hong Kong (China), Egypt and Pakistan, the CAPES-COFECUB France-Brazil program and the Cyfuse Project in Japan. As founder of the International Master in Biomedicine, we are committed to training the next generation of scientists in regenerative medicine. Our global collaborative network extends across China, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel, Turkey, Japan, Pakistan, Lebanon, Taiwan and Italy, providing access to diverse expertise and cutting-edge technologies. We actively participate in major research infrastructures including the Centre de Référence des Maladies Rares and our integration within Interdisciplinary Thematic Institutes (ITI) programs Transplantex and Innovec further positions us at the center of regional and international research networks, fostering collaborative innovation and knowledge exchange across disciplines and borders.
