Short Biography

 

Prof. Pierre-Emmanuel Falcoz, MD, PhD, FECTS

Prof. Pierre-Emmanuel Falcoz works as Thoracic Surgeon at the Department of Thoracic Surgery, Strasbourg University Hospital, in Strasbourg, France.

Doctor Pierre-Emmanuel Falcoz is a graduate of Lyon and Besançon Medical School (MD, PhD). He received training in General Surgery, Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery. After completing a year working in Paris (Fellow, thoracic surgery, Hotel-Dieu Hospital), he joined the faculty at Strasbourg University Hospital where he is currently Senior Thoracic Surgeon and an active member of lung transplantation program (about 50 cases performed per year).

He obtained in 2007 his Accreditation to Supervise Research and has the position of full Professor of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at Strasbourg University School of Medicine since 2009. He is a board European certificated surgeon since 2015 (FECTS).

Prof. Pierre-Emmanuel Falcoz is the current Director of ESTS database and member of many committees and working groups of the same organization. He is an active member of the faculty of the ESTS School of Thoracic Surgery and participate regularly in educational event. He also serves as secretary of the French Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and is Associate Editor of the “Journal of the French Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery”. He is member of the scientific committee for the French Database EPITHOR. He is reviewer of many scientific journals.

His clinical expertise and main field of interest are the following: thoracic oncology (VATS surgery), lung transplantation, ECMO, trauma surgery, evidence-based medicine, database, assessment of surgical practices (Thoracoscore). As regard to fundamental research, he is interested in tissue engineering and stem cell technology, with particular attention to 3D vascularized tumor.

He is author of more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed impact factored scientific journals such as The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, The European Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Chest, Thoracic Surgery Clinics, British Journal of Cancer and many others, with a personal h-index of 24. He wrote 26 chapters in books and currently gave more than 100 invited lectures.

Prof. Pierre-Emmanuel Falcoz was recently the co-chair of the of the ESTS joint task force appointed to develop guidelines on structure and qualification of general thoracic surgery in Europe.
